I am sure I am not the only one who struggles with making the most of my time and getting things done. I think much of my frustrations are rooted in the fact that I often try to do to much. This year, I started 2015 with slowing down and taking stock of what I am doing, what I should be doing, and what I need to stop doing.
Here are some random tips that seem to be working for me right now.
Time Blocking
I have used time blocking for a long time. Unfortunately, I can time block with the best of them, but Tracy does not obey the blocks. I have used a combination of Google Calendar and Outlook for my schedule for a while. The reason I use both is because the Google calendar does not print well and at times I like to print out my time blocks and have them handy on paper.
I use https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gappssync to sync Outlook 2013 with Google Apps for business. I don’t think this works for regular google.
Here is an article on other options so sync the google calendar with Outlook: https://www.ablebits.com/office-addins-blog/2013/11/20/sync-google-calendar-with-outlook/. Looks like some work with a regular google account.
The most effective tip I have had to improve my time blocking is to create a google calendar called Time Block. On this calendar I create my ideal schedule with time blocks. You can toggle a calendar to be seen or hidden with one click. So as I plan each week, I can view my time blocks and do my best to make sure my schedule is as close to ideal as possible.
It is a rare thing to have a perfect week, however, it is a good week, when I am as close to my ideal as possible.
